Re: *~*~* The Holy Month Of RAMADAAN *~*~*
What is Ramadan?
Fasting in the month of Ramadan is an essential part of being a Muslim.
They have to fast from dawn till dusk – abstaining from food and drink,
and guarding themselves from destructive behaviour.
Those who are sick, elderly, or on a journey and women who are pregnant or nursing, are exempt from the fast and can make up an equal number of days later in the year.
Children begin to fast (and to observe prayers) from puberty.

Re: *~*~* The Holy Month Of RAMADAAN *~*~*
The following dua (prayers) are recited at the beginning and end of the fast to indicate and affirm the intention of the fast.
A person's intention when fasting, is to bring him/herself closer to God.
Dua (Prayer) at the Beginning of the Fast
Wa bisawmi ghadinn nawaiytu min shahri ramadan
I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow in the month of Ramadan
Dua (Prayer) at the End of the Fast
Allahumma inni laka sumtu wa bika aamantu wa alayka tawakkaltu was ala rizq-ika-aftarhu
O Allah! I fasted for You and I believe in You and I put my trust in You and I break my fast with Your sustenance
O Allah! I fasted for You and I believe in You and I put my trust in You and I break my fast with Your sustenance

ramadan..........
Volume 3, Book 31, Number 115:
Narrated Talha bin 'Ubaid-Ullah:
A bedouin with unkempt hair came to Allah's Apostle and said, "O Allah's Apostle! Inform me what Allah has made compulsory for me as regards the prayers." He replied: "You have to offer perfectly the five compulsory prayers in a day and night (24 hours), unless you want to pray Nawafil." The bedouin further asked, "Inform me what Allah has made compulsory for me as regards fasting." He replied, "You have to fast during the whole month of Ramadan, unless you want to fast more as Nawafil." The bedouin further asked, "Tell me how much Zakat Allah has enjoined on me." Thus, Allah's Apostle informed him about all the rules (i.e. fundamentals) of Islam. The bedouin then said, "By Him Who has honored you, I will neither perform any Nawafil nor will I decrease what Allah has enjoined on me. Allah's Apostle said, "If he is saying the truth, he will succeed (or he will be granted Paradise)."

Volume 3, Book 31, Number 116:
Narrated Ibn 'Umar:
The Prophet observed the fast on the 10th of Muharram ('Ashura), and ordered (Muslims) to fast on that day, but when the fasting of the month of Ramadan was prescribed, the fasting of the 'Ashura' was abandoned. 'Abdullah did not use to fast on that day unless it coincided with his routine fasting by chance.

Re: *~*~* The Holy Month Of RAMADAAN *~*~*
God states in the Qur’an: “O you who believe Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed to those before you that you may achieve greater consciousness (of God).” (Holy Qur’an 2:183)
Fasting is not only beneficial to health, but is also allows one to empathise with those less fortunate. However, fasting is mainly a method of self-purification and self-restraint. By cutting oneself from worldly comforts, even for a short time, a fasting person focuses on his/her purpose in life by constantly being aware of God.

Ramadan is a special time for Muslims everywhere; a time for reflection and greater spirituality. The end of Ramadan is observed by a holiday – Eid ul Fitr. On this day, Muslims all over the world celebrate with prayers and an exchange of gifts.

Ramadan is on of the 5 pillars of Islam
The five pillars of Islam are the basis of Muslim life.
The Prophet Muhammad said:
“Islam is founded on five pillars:
1) To testify there is no deity except God, and Muhammad is the messenger of God;
2) To establish the ritual prayers(five times a day);
3) To give charity to the needy;
4) To perform the pilgrimage to the House of worship in Mecca;
5) And to fast during the month of Ramadan.”

Re: *~*~* The Holy Month Of RAMADAAN *~*~*
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Whoever fasted the month of Ramadan out of sincere Faith (i.e. belief) and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his past sins will be forgiven, and whoever stood for the prayers in the night of Qadr out of sincere Faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven ."
Narrated Ibn 'Umar: Some men amongst the companions of the Prophet were shown in their dreams that the night of Qadr was in the last seven nights of Ramadan. Allah's Apostle said, "It seems that all your dreams agree that (the Night of Qadr) is in the last seven nights, and whoever wants to search for it (i.e. the Night of Qadr) should search in the last seven (nights of Ramadan)."
